FUE Technique and its Advantages

The Reasons FUE Technique Is Preferred:

After the hair transplanting operation, people can have their hair cut, once their hair grows back. Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is the  latest hair transplantation technique used in Turkey and in the rest of the world. It is a beneficial technique that helps achieve natural results both in taking the hair follicles and in transplanting them. As in most of the hair transplantation techniques, FUE is the process of transferring the live hair follicles one by one from the donor area, to the transplant area. Unlike the FUT method, in this method, the follicular units (grafts) are directly removed from the scalp by special punches and micro-motors. This method is known as "non invasive". In FUE technique, no scalpel is used in the donor area, no stitches are inserted, and there is no visible mark left in the area
from where the follicles are taken. As long as there are no complications, the patients can continue their daily life immediately following the hair transplant.

While the extraction methods are different in FUE and FUT, the transplanting of the obtained follicles is exactly the same. With FUE technique, 4000:100000 Follicular unit grafts(2000:5000 )hair follicles can be transplanted in one session.

The reasons why Follicular Unit Extraction is preferred:
After hair transplantation and after the hair has regrown, the patients can have their hair cut short. Depending on the anatomy of the region in which the hair is transplanted and from which the hair follicles are taken, there is no scarring.

The FUE technique is preferred for the areas with thinning hair. It is also a suitable method for people who are thinning in the temporal area. It can be successfully applied to scarred areas where no hair grows, as well as to the beard and mustache areas.

It is the preferred technique in eyebrow transplantation. As a result of removing cuts from the hair follicles in the nape region, it is successfully applied in closing scars formed in the nape region. With the FUE technique, only hair follicles between the ears are removed.

Process of Hair Transplantation

Every technique used in hair transplantation share basic principles.These principles are:

1. Harvesting hair follicles
FUE: Individually removing each follicular unit
2. Creating incisions
3. Transplanting hair follicles

Harvesting Hair Follicles
Ensuring a significant aesthetic success during the process of harvesting the hair follicles is due to the distinctive aspect of the FUE technique. It is this innovation that has made FUE popular and preferred over FUT. The FUT technique involves removing a small strip of tissue from the back of the head and extracting the individual follicular units from this strip, whereas in FUE, each follicular unit is individually taken directly from the scalp through small circular incisions. By this way, the risk of injury is eliminated.

Depending on the length of each follicular unit it is important to utilize needles that have a diameter of 0,7 mm to 0,9 mm or if the follicular unit grafts contains 3-4-5 hairs needles with a diameter of 0,1 mm should be used. The sharpness of the needles as well as being only for single-use, are the elements that have a considerable impact on the operation's success. Another important factor is to extract hair follicles with precise accuracy so as to avoid any follicular damage. For example; if the person who is having a hair transplant has very curly hair, by using a curved punch called u-graft during the process of extracting follicular units, the risk of follicular damage can be eliminated. All of these elements are refinements planned by the doctor prior to the operation, which are tailored specifically to each patient's condition.

Recipient Site Preparation
In the classic FUE technique the incisions are created by utilizing steel blades. With these slit blades, the incisions should be created with precise accuracy, considering the natural direction of hair growth. This will allow the transplanted grafts to grow out at their natural direction.

While making slits in the recipient area, it is very important to follow the direction and angel of the existing hair in that region.

FUE technique utilizes steel blades for creating incisions in the recipient site. 8. Postoperative Care & Hair Wash: This is the washing process that is to be carried out for 15 days. Both the donor and the transplanted area will be sensitive during this period, so it important to carry out the washing process with extra care

What is FUE Hair Transplant Performed With Sapphire Blades?

Sedation is efficient and safe even in young children and as we previously mentioned, it assures the patient a discomfort free hair transplant procedure with zero pain. We do however continue to offer hair transplant procedures without sedation for patients who  prefer sedation not to be administered.

Sapphire FUE versus Classic FUE

The difference between Sapphire FUE and Classic FUE is in the opening of micro-channels

FUE, using blades made from a precious gemstone sapphire, instead of steel blades during the process of creating incisions within the recipient site.

FUE performed with sapphire blades is not a technique, it is an innovation implementing a new process within the FUE method.

The blades are designed to minimize incisions needed and speed up the recovery process within the recipient site for transplantation.

In FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) conducted with sapphire blades, after the patient is administered with local anesthesia, hair follicles are extracted one by one from the donor area with the aid of a micro motor and micro punches in sizes of 0,6 – 0,7 – 0,8 diameters.

With the FUE method, the extracted hair follicles should be transplanted into the incisions that have been created.

These channels have a major influence on the density, angle and direction of hair growth, which are the determinants of obtaining a natural appearance.

For this reason, the opening of the channels is considered to be the most important process for a successful operation.

The best possible way to open micro channels can now be achieved through the sapphire blades.

Hair follicles will be transplanted into these channels.

The small incisions, which are at the same length of hair follicles, are created using sharp, smooth and durable sapphire blades varying in sizes of 1,0 -1,3 – 1,5 mm. As a result more channels can be opened, enabling the hair follicles to be transplanted  closer to each other.

Some hair transplant centers claim that they can transplant 65-70 follicular units per square centimeter at which they would provide the patient with natural looking and dense hair.

Neither sapphire blades nor steel blades, can make it possible to obtain such high graft density.

Because, in order to create a natural-looking appearance, hair follicles must be transplanted taking into account the accurate angle and direction of hair growth.

If 65-70 follicular units per square centimeter were to be transplanted, it would be impossible to achieve a natural outcome, because creating incisions in alignment with the proper growth direction of the hair follicles would be prevented by such density.

The natural angle of hair growth is 40-45 degrees.

If hair follicles are transplanted perpendicular to the scalp, to obtain density, the result will not be a natural look.

The Advantages of FUE Performed with Sapphire Blades in Comparison With Steel Blades:

Owing to its qualities such as smooth surface with antibacterial properties, hardness, sharpness and durability, when using sapphire blades for the process of opening micro channels, vibration will be reduced thus, the risk of complications such as trauma and scalp tissue damage will also be reduced.

In comparison with steel blades, FUE performed with sapphire blades enables a denser transplantation

Sapphire FUE hair transplant recovery and results 

Following a sapphire FUE transplantion you may experience a slight swelling or soreness in areas of the scalp that have been operated on.

This should not be a cause of concern as it is normal.

The swelling and soreness are only temporary and will fade in a few days.

Patients who undergo sapphire FUE will experience the loss of the transplanted hairs within 3 to 4 weeks of the surgery. Hair loss at this stage is normal and does not affect the results of the treatment.

The hair lost during this period will begun to regrow within 2 months.

Post saphhire FUE surgery 

It may take up to a year for optimal results to appear.

However significant changes in hair growth will begin to show within 4 to 6 months of the procedure.

Duration of surgery 

The duration of the saphhire FUE hair transplant depends on how many grafts needs to be extracted and then transplanted but in general it takes 8 to 10 hours  for the surgery to be completed.

Using sapphire blades enables a denser, more natural looking appearance.

In comparison with steel blades, sapphire blades allow the surgeon to inject less tumescent – a special fluid to lift the skin from the bone – prior to making incisions. As a result, fluid retention experienced after surgery will be reduced, making the post-operative phase more comfortable for the patient.

As incisions created for the transplant process will be smaller, tissue recovery will be faster in comparison with steel blades but most importantly the bonded skin will have a smooth surface.

As a result of opening channels the same length as the hair follicles, it is not possible for the newly transplanted follies to become dislodged.

Over time hair transplantation has improved and this final transformation achieves the “perfect look”.

The FUE method of transplantation has been in use since 2004 and is the generally accepted technique used worldwide.

Now it is time to focus on satisfying the patients expectations and prioritise their needs with respect to quality and perfection. This expectation has been fulfilled by performing the FUE technique utilising sapphire blades.

BEARD TRANSPLANTATION

Beard transplantation:  Beard transplantation is performed in areas where the beard does not grow. This can be for a number of reasons including scar tissue following an injury or a burn.

First, the area for beard transplantation is determined. A drawing of the aesthetic and natural shape of the face of the person is prepared. 

The number of follicles to be taken is determined and the transplantation  areas is prepared. The follicles to be transplanted to the beard are taken from the hairs on the cheekbones and from the nape region.

Beard hair is not like the hair on the head, its density can vary from person to person. If there is a regional beard loss, the density of the beard is adjusted according to the follicles surrounding the area. Between 1500-3000 follicles can be transplanted.  Transplanting around 3000 follicles gives satisfactory results. No problems should occur following the operation, how there may be redness around the operation area for up to a week. Since the follicles are taken with tools that have a tip of 0.6-0.7 mm, no scars are left. 

The operation  process requires attention and delicacy. The procedure will take about 4-5 hours, depending on the plastic surgeon and the team. Before the procedure, local anesthesia is applied and then the follicles are taken from the donor area. The operation is painless and comfortable for the patient. The beard area is washed after 48 hours and you can shave after 30 days.

The results are natural. The marks after the operations may be visible for 10 days, however no one can tell you have had an operation once the marks are gone. 

Once the transplantation is complete, you must follow post operative care procedures. During the recovery period, you must use the medications and preparations recommended by your doctor. Fifteen days after the process, the beard sheds however it will start to grow back in the 2nd month. It can take up to a year before the beard to completely established.

MOUSTACHE TRANSPLANT

The moustache is the most important factors in the formation of male identity and it can cause serious social problem for a person if it is missing.  Thinning moustache, no hair growth in the area of the mustache, scar tissue, all these problems may create an aesthetic problem for the person. In the case of men not having hair on the upper lip or hair loss, the precise treatment is mustache transplantation.

A person may regret having a mustache transplantation if it has been badly performed. For this reason, the person who will be operated must consult with the doctor and ask him questions and get satisfactory answers. This shows the importance of consultancy.

The hairs to be transplanted are taken from the nape region. For this, individual hair roots are taken with 0.6 mm punches using FUE method of extraction.

If only 2-3 grafts are transplanted,  the moustache created is very disappointing especially after shaving. Therefore the transplantation density must be in a way that allows the follicles to be nourished.

 Local anesthesia is applied to the area before the operation.  The duration of the operation performed by applying the FUE technique varies according to the volume of the area to be transplanted. After the local anesthesia performed in the area where the moustache or beard is to be planted, the channels  where the follicles will be placed by the expert are carefully opened with the lateral slit  technique according to the direction of natural beard and moustache. If the transplantation is performed in this way the results are pleasing even after shaving with a razor.

After the operation, especially the first 3 days the mustache area must be protected.Any movement that may cause irritation and damage should be avoided. It is natural to observe redness for the first 3-4 days following the operation and this can continue until the end of first month.The redness will become scabs and after a week later, it will continue healing. Do not neglect to apply creams to prevent scabbing after the mustache transplantation. You can start shaving after 30 days. After 2 months, the hair starts to grow in the area where the transplantation has been performed and all the moustache grow back within one year.
